United Way of King County Announces Transitions
This month marks a number of transitions at United Way of King County.
After five and a half years as CEO, Gordon McHenry, Jr., has decided that now is the right time to begin the transition to the organization’s next generation of leadership. To make the transition smooth and seamless, Gordon has agreed to stay on through the end of the year with the new title of President of United Way of King County, where he will oversee our critically important Bridging the Wealth Gap Campaign.
Additionally, the Board of Directors elected new leadership. Steve Hooper, Jr.’s term as Chair expires this month, and Lisa Chin is taking over as Chair with Shkëlqim Kelmendi as Vice Chair. Lisa has served as CEO for numerous local nonprofits and is currently the Interim Executive of the Pike Place Market Foundation. Shkëlqim is the Founder and CEO of Housing Connector. Both bring decades of nonprofit management and Board experience to their roles.
This month, the Board will begin the search process for a new CEO of United Way of King County. This includes forming a Board Search Committee and naming an Interim CEO. It is expected that an Interim CEO will be in place by the end of June. The process for the permanent replacement is anticipated to wrap up by the end of the year. Details of the search process will be shared as they are finalized.
During this initial transition period, United Way of King County’s Chief Impact Officer, Regina Malveaux, has been named CEO Designee. She and the Senior Leadership Team will lead the critically important work in the community.
If there are questions on the transition, please reach out to Regina Malveaux, Chief Impact Officer/CEO Designee, United Way of King County at rmalveaux@uwkc.org.
