United Way’s Free Tax Prep: Still in Business

By Joe Burris, on May 19, 2026 | In Access to Resources, News

On Sunday, United Way of King County gathered its 652 Free Tax Preparation Campaign volunteers for a celebration of service. During this year’s tax season, the group helped secure $18 million in tax credits and refunds for Free Tax Prep clients.

Each year, United Way’s Free Tax Prep Campaign helps filers get back some of their hard-earned wages; this year’s total in credits and refunds exceeds last year’s tally by $1 million.

And we’re not done yet.

Though tax season is over, United Way is extending its Free Tax Prep Campaign through July 30.

That means we can still help you file your return not only for 2025, but for any return since 2020.

Our Free Tax Prep Campaign is a U.S. Volunteer Income Tax Assistant initiative that helps low- and middle-income households claim key cash benefits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Working Families Tax Credit.

Get your taxes done at the Seattle Library Main Branch through May 31.
