Who Loves Free Tax Prep? Everyone

By United Way of King County, on March 7, 2019 | In Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

We’re dedicated to creating a community where people have homes, students graduate and families are financially stable. And a major tool in breaking the cycle of poverty to become financially stable? The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) tax program. Our version, the Free Tax Prep Program, not only saves people the fees to file, but connects them to credits they might not know about, like the Earned Income Tax Credit. The program returns hard-earned money back to the pockets of families and individuals.

Yesterday, we took part of a national conversation on our Free Tax Prep Program on Twitter. The #UnitedWayChat happens monthly and gave us a chance to share the good tax work done by our AmeriCorps (shout out Pacific Region Green Team 7!) and volunteers. We also get to see what else is going on in VITA work across the country!

See what we’re up to this tax season here. Then, take a look at what’s being done at United Ways in Saginaw, MI, Hudson Valley, N.Y., Orlando, Fla, Brattleboro, VT and New Hampshire/Vermont. Who knew taxes could be so interesting?

Shout out to H&R Block for partnering with us to also make MyFreeTaxes.com possible. If you made $66K last year and want to file on your own, check it out!
