It’s getting close to that time of year when you might need to add 10 minutes to your commute. You know, in case you get stuck behind a big yellow bus.

As kids start to head back to school, early-learning visitors head out to meet moms, dads, and kiddos ages 2 and 3 who’ll be part of this year’s Parent-Child Home Program.

This program helps parents become their children’s first and best teachers. Three in 4 kids from low-income Washington families are behind their peers when they start kindergarten. These kids have as much potential as any child. They and their parents simply face bigger obstacles, like language, income, time, cultural differences in early learning and more.

With the Parent-Child Home Program in place, kids start kindergarten on a path to success. Kids like Sammy, who started the program in 2005 and is now a Rainier Scholar. This year, United Way donors have made it possible for the Parent-Child Home Program to reach 1,200 families.
