Day of Caring Digital Toolkit

Got a question about being a Project Leader? Want to purchase t-shirts for your team or print your own posters?

We’ve pulled together info for you here.

T-shirts

At United Way of King County, we’re always looking for ways to maximize the impact our investments have in the community.

In the last couple of years, we’ve seen the demand for Day of Caring t-shirts decline significantly, with many companies preferring to use t-shirts with their own branding.

We’ve determined that the money producing, storing and distributing the t-shirts can better be used helping our most vulnerable neighbors. As a result, we will not be producing Day of Caring t-shirts in 2019.

However… we don’t want to leave you completely in the lurch. If you’d like to have Day of Caring t-shirts with your organization’s logo, we’ve made it easy for you to order your own. Depending on the quantity of shirts you order, the cost to have your own Day of Caring shirts set up and printed will vary, though will likely be in the range of $7-$22 per shirt.

We’ve already mocked up a t-shirt design (see below) with space for your organization’s logo and sent the design to our preferred t-shirt printing vendor, Abracadabra Printing (their contact info is below as well). All you need to do is send your logo as a vectorized .eps file to them along with the dimensions of the logo (e.g. “3 inches wide by 2 inches high”).

Thank you so much for supporting Day of Caring 2019!

What does a Volunteer Project Leader do?

As a Day of Caring Volunteer Project Leader, you will…

  • Select and register for a Day of Caring project
  • Recruit all of the volunteers needed for your project
  • Act as a liaison between your nonprofit partner and your volunteer group
  • Rally your team and rock your project

As a Volunteer Project Leader, how do I register team members?

Click here for instructions on how to manually add team members or invite them to sign up for your project.

Will group members have to create volunteer accounts to join my project?

All group members need to be registered online. If you enter your group’s members manually, a profile will be started for them and they will be notified via email. If you use the “join link” and invite your group members to sign up, they will have to create a profile or login to their profile in order to register. All that is required to create a profile is name and email.

What happens if I can’t find enough people to fill all the volunteer slots I claimed?

It is important that you recruit all the volunteers required for your project. The best way to ensure this happens is to start your recruitment as early as possible so that you have enough time to fill the project. If you are having difficulty filling all the spots, contact us at dayofcaring@uwkc.org and we will try to find additional volunteers to fill your slots.

What if more people join my group than there are volunteer slots?

If you want to add volunteer slots, first check with the organization host to confirm that they can accommodate additional volunteers. If the organization can add extra spots, they will need to contact us at dayofcaring@uwkc.org so that we can add volunteer slots to the project. It is important to not show up on the day of the project with more volunteers than the organization is expecting. Sometimes organizations don’t have the capacity (supplies, space, staff, etc.) to handle additional volunteers.

My project has been cancelled by the organization. What do I do?

It is extremely rare for projects to get cancelled, but if your project is cancelled, contact us at dayofcaring@uwkc.org so we can help you find a new project.

Who can volunteer for Day of Caring?

Anyone is welcome to participate! A majority of Day of Caring volunteers are part of corporate groups that support United Way of King County in some capacity, though volunteering is open to anyone.

Are children welcome at Day of Caring projects?

It is up to the organization hosting the Day of Caring project whether they accept volunteers under 18. Before the event, please check with the organization’s contact person for their policy on youth volunteers.

Can I volunteer as an individual, or do I have to join a team?

You can volunteer as an individual or a team. If you are volunteering as an individual, you won’t have a team lead, so just make sure you have all the info you need from the organization hosting the project. Also, note that if you are volunteering as a part of a team you may be volunteering alongside other groups or individuals. If you want to ensure that you are volunteering as a part of a private project with just your group, please reach out to dayofcaring@uwkc.org.
