Area youth ❤ you because…

By United Way of King County, on September 21, 2015 | In Helping Students Graduate

If even one youth can’t see a bright future, it’s one too many. Am I right or am I right?

For the 15,000 16- to 21-year-olds here in King County who aren’t in school and don’t have jobs, their hopes and dreams are getting closer—thanks to you.

In the last few months alone, here are just a few of the programs your support makes possible:

  • Our brand-new Reconnecting Youth program is already going strong. It connects young people with 1:1 support, educational coaching, help obtaining their GED/high school equivalency, and help navigating financial aid and other aspects of post-secondary education.
  • 12 summer interns partnered with 80 AmeriCorps members to support our summer meals program. These interns are mostly high school kids who otherwise wouldn’t have had a summer job to keep them focused and potentially out of trouble. In addition to being a great resume addition, the internship gave these youth experience with teamwork, customer service, project management and other key skills for any job field. This was in partnership with the Seattle Youth Employment Program.
  • The 3rd annual All-Star Softball Classic for Youth in June brought together celebrities (Mariners, Bachelor couples and more!), companies, fans and youth at Safeco Field. Talk about united! The event raised $1.4M for programs that prevent youth homelessness and get homeless youth back on solid ground.
